My grandparents, Donald and Clemontine Beddingfield established the old home place with about 16 acres in the 1930s. They had three daughters and my dad, Gene. The house was a very rustic farm home and suited its times with an old out house (still on site today), no plumbing until the late 1980s, a spring house (still active today) in which they drew water to drink, cooked and cleaned with an old corn crib and smokehouse. All still standing today. Several structures were not salvageable like the old chicken coop and wood shed but bring back such fond memories. As kids, we would tromp the land hunting squirrels, digging up crayfish in the spring creek, and helping out with the farm animals (chickens, cows, horses, etc.). But the best memory is that our entire family would always meet on Sunday after church for a big home-cooked meal. Clemontine was the best cook ever. A Sunday lunch would consist of fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, cornbread, desserts, and all types of jellies from the land they tended. We never missed a Sunday lunch as we knew family was all we had and how important that bond was and being together. Although some homemade ice cream helped out a little. You'll understand if you ever had to sit atop that churn. My grandparents farmed and I think my generation is the last to understand all the hard work that truly went into surviving back in those days. Clemontine canned about anything that could be canned out of the garden. She sewed and mended the kids' clothes and quilted blankets, and heated the home with wood. I value that generation's work ethic. I wanted to honor them by incorporating and preserving some of their histories into our new home.
There's much to do and see here. When you plan your event or getaway at Clemontine's you can enjoy some quiet time sitting on the deck or relaxing in the jacuzzi. Our cheerful 2 BR lofted cabin sits on 5 acres with a creek, pasture/woods and a fire pit.
Clementine’s “IN BLOOM” (a you pick flower farm)
We have just recently planted about 500 fall bulbs ( Lilies, Irises, Tulips, Anemone’s, Black Eyes Susan’s, etc) that will bloom in the spring and have ordered about 10 pounds of flower seeds (Cosmos, Zinnias, Glad, Sunflowers, etc) to plant in the spring. This will allow Clementine’s to be IN BLOOM from early spring up into the fall months. We hope to offer some SIP N SNIP type events so you can stop by and enjoy some sweat tea and tulips or lemonade and lilies, etc. We hope to open up the flower farm to small weddings offering a small reception area (barn amongst the flowers), photographers and families of all sorts who want to enjoy the scenery, pick a bouquet of flowers or blueberries and hang down by the creek.
